2 Reasons to Avoid JAZZ and 1 Stock to Buy Instead

Jazz Pharmaceuticals has delivered a 29.7 percent return over the past six months, beating the S&P 500 by 17 percent. The stock recently climbed to $240.49 per share, lifted by solid quarterly results. That kind of run can tempt investors to chase the momentum. Before adding shares, though, it pays to look at what could go wrong.

First, the company leans heavily on a small group of drugs for revenue. Its sleep and oncology treatments drive most of the business, so any regulatory setback, patent challenge, or weaker than expected demand for one of those products would hit the top line hard. Diversification is limited, and that raises the risk profile.

Second, debt remains a concern. Jazz has funded past acquisitions with borrowing, leaving a sizable balance sheet obligation. Rising interest costs or a slowdown in cash flow could pressure earnings and limit flexibility for future deals or buybacks.

For investors who still want exposure to the sector, a larger, more diversified healthcare company may offer a steadier path. Such a firm spreads risk across many products and markets, reducing the impact of a single failure. Jazz has momentum, but the two concerns above suggest caution is warranted before buying at current levels.
