Ant International has rolled out an enhanced version of its artificial intelligence-driven foreign exchange tool, and it has already secured commitments from several of the world's largest banks. The upgraded system, which went live on Thursday, will be used by Citi, HSBC, and Standard Chartered, marking a significant vote of confidence for the fintech firm's push into cross-border payments and treasury services.
The AI model is designed to help corporate clients manage currency risk and execute trades more efficiently. It analyzes market conditions in real time, offering predictive insights that allow businesses to lock in better rates and reduce the cost of moving money across borders. Ant International, which operates the Alipay+ global payments network, says the tool has been refined with deeper data sets and faster processing speeds since its initial release.
For the banks involved, adopting the platform is part of a broader effort to modernize their trade finance and cash management operations. A spokesperson for Standard Chartered noted that the partnership would help streamline settlement times for clients operating in multiple currencies. Citi and HSBC have not yet issued detailed statements, but sources familiar with the matter say their treasury teams have been testing the system for several months.
The move comes as competition intensifies in the digital payments space, with traditional lenders facing pressure from fintechs that offer cheaper and faster alternatives. By embedding Ant International's AI directly into their workflows, these banks are betting that collaboration will be more profitable than building similar tools in-house. The rollout is expected to expand to additional institutions in Asia and Europe over the coming quarters.
