Evolution Petroleum Corporation reported fiscal fourth-quarter and full-year 2026 results on September 16, showing a company recovering from a difficult stretch. Revenue rose 20% sequentially to $24.2 million, driven largely by higher oil prices. The realized oil price before hedge settlements climbed 49% year over year to $90.74 a barrel. That jump gave the Houston-based energy firm a meaningful lift after several quarters of pressure.
The catch, however, is familiar. Hedge settlements continue to eat into the gains. While crude prices have risen, the company's hedging program locks in certain volumes at lower prices, meaning Evolution Petroleum does not capture the full benefit of the market rally. That gap between headline oil prices and actual realized revenue remains a drag on results.
Management pointed to steady production and disciplined cost control as reasons for optimism. The company also highlighted progress on reducing debt and maintaining its dividend. Still, the hedge overhang is expected to persist into the next fiscal year, limiting upside unless energy prices climb well above current levels.
For investors, the quarter offers a mixed picture. The rebound is real, but so is the hedge-related catch that has followed Evolution Petroleum through past cycles.
