Most parents aren't spending their evenings reading legislation moving through Congress. They're helping with homework, packing lunches, juggling work schedules and trying to make smart financial decisions for their families. The last thing they need is a federal government that makes those decisions harder or more expensive.
Yet that is exactly what happens when policymakers pile on regulations that raise costs, limit choices and create uncertainty for households already stretched thin. Every new mandate or restriction that flows out of Washington eventually shows up somewhere in a family's budget, whether through higher prices, fewer options or reduced access to the financial tools they rely on.
The debate is not abstract. It shapes whether a young couple can save for a first home, whether a single mother can build an emergency fund, and whether grandparents can protect what they have set aside for retirement. These are real stakes for real people who simply want to plan, save and provide for the ones they love.
Lawmakers should remember who they work for. Policies should expand opportunity, not narrow it. They should lower barriers, not raise them. Families do not need more bureaucracy standing between them and their goals. They need room to make their own choices and the confidence that those choices will not be undermined by decisions made far away from their kitchen tables.
