LLY Stock Gains As CEO Says Foundayo Wins One-Third of New GLP-1 Pill Starts, Breaks Ground On $6.5B Houston Plant

LLY Stock Gains As CEO Says Foundayo Wins One-Third of New GLP-1 Pill Starts, Breaks Ground On $6.5B Houston Plant

Eli Lilly shares moved higher after Chair and CEO Dave Ricks said the company's oral GLP-1 treatment Foundayo now accounts for roughly one-third of new patients starting a GLP-1 pill. In an interview with CNBC, Ricks noted that Lilly's share of the oral segment continues to climb week by week, signaling growing momentum for the drug as competition in the weight loss and diabetes market intensifies.

The company also announced it has broken ground on a new manufacturing plant in Houston valued at 6.5 billion dollars. The facility is expected to expand Lilly's production capacity for its GLP-1 portfolio, which has faced persistent supply constraints amid soaring demand. The Houston site represents one of the largest single investments in the company's history and underscores its push to secure domestic manufacturing infrastructure.

Ricks framed the dual developments as evidence that Lilly is executing on both the commercial and operational fronts. Foundayo's rapid uptake among new pill patients suggests the oral format is resonating with people who prefer a tablet over an injection. Meanwhile, the Houston plant aims to ease bottlenecks that have limited access to these treatments.

Investors responded positively to the news, with the stock gaining ground during the session. Analysts say the combination of rising market share and expanded production capacity could strengthen Lilly's position heading into the next phase of the GLP-1 race.
