The Bank of New York Mellon is pushing artificial intelligence deeper into its operations, but the financial institution is not ready to share what that effort costs. CEO Robin Vince declined on Thursday to provide a figure for how much the custody bank is investing in AI, leaving analysts and investors without a clear picture of the expense side of the equation.
Instead, Vince spoke in broad terms about the technology and its role across the company. He said BNY is embedding AI in many parts of its business and that the bank is already seeing returns from those deployments. The comments suggest management views the spending as worthwhile, even if the exact price tag remains undisclosed.
The reluctance to share numbers stands out at a time when many large financial firms are under pressure to explain how they are using AI and what it means for costs, staffing and risk. Rivals have faced similar questions as they race to adopt tools that can automate tasks, speed up analysis and improve client services.
For BNY, the message was simple: the technology is spreading throughout the organization, and leadership believes it is paying off. Whether that confidence will satisfy investors who want more detail on spending remains an open question.
